Supperclub on a Cannes Beach

After the great success of last Friday’s first beach supperclub we thought we had finally better get on with posting some of the great photographs taken by Lorrianne Caouette of BellaMiella Photography. We took to the very crowded public beach in Cannes with what can only be described as a great deal of apprehension and trepidation, not quite knowing what to expect from both the French Sun-worshippers and more worryingly the Cannes Gendarmes.

With an anticipated arrival of 36 guests at 7:30 SHARP (our stupid request!) it was a little unnerving to arrive at 6pm with three car loads of equipment, only to find the beach packed and with barely room for one more large beach towel, never mind a ten metre table and 36 chairs. Whilst there were a few angry words from some of the locals and threats to call the Mayor and police, in general the reaction was just one of bewilderment and surprise as they watched the Red Radish ‘Volunteer’ Swat Team (Thanks Iarla Byrne, Phil Eady and Helen McLeod) spring into very sweaty action. We managed to set up the whole thing in less than an hour although a few of the early arrivals (that will teach you!) were cajoled into helping. Lucy arrived with the FOOD 15 minutes before the first guests and voila we were all set for what we are sure was a truly unique event and at just €25 per person for great food and unlimited wine represented what must be the deal of the summer. All that is left for us to say is thanks to everyone for coming and making it such a  very special evening and see you at the next one soon.

‘Popping-up’ near Gotha & Baoli

We are just off to a the land of the mega-yachts and a beach in Cannes (between the Casino, Baoli and Gotha where Madonna played last week) to set up a very funky pop-up restaurant for 36 special guests. It promises to be a great night with lots of surprises and fantastic Red Radish food as ever. Hopefully the local authorities and police will enjoy our wonderful imaginative ideas and take it in the spirit with which it is meant. The French are real foodies after all. The photos should be up very soon.

PS: Please excuse the rather Phallic photo of the beach

Pop-Up Restaurant in Cannes

Just to say that this Friday’s (16th September) secret beach party is definitely happening and the weather is looking perfect. The venue is a beach close to Cannes (and a train station*) and will be an absolutely perfect setting for what promises to be a great evening with lots of surprises. Numbers are limited to 30 and we are pretty full but could be possibly squeeze in a couple more if you twist our arms. The cost will be €25 per person which will include a great three course supper with drinks. Please contact us by email to confirm and just to make sure that we have all your details. We will also post updates to our Facebook Page so please be sure to make sure you are a fan.

Call me for a refund!

“Over a period of 2 weeks on a recent visit to South of France, Wayne and Lucy catered for my party of on average 12 people, for 10 nights.

Our pre agreed choices for a mixed aged party, including a number of children, were relatively basic with the prerequisite being good hearty food – Lasagne, Fish Pie, Curry, Chilli etc.

I work in an industry that takes me to all the best restaurants in the world and I can honestly say that appreciating the parameters of budget, choice, timings that we imposed, Lucy and Wayne out shone even our highest expectations on each and every evening. Wayne’s perception from his undoubted experience of what people want and Lucy’s ability to deliver that view were absolutely first class. It is unsurprising they have the reputation they have or have been asked to cook for the people they have, their observed communication skill as a pair, alike every successful double act, is enviable!

I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this couple to anybody, regardless of holiday requirement and to have 2 just totally down to earth people, without any edge between them was utterly refreshing and an enjoyable experience.

Try them and if you’re disappointed post experience, call me for a refund!”

Great Flexibility a Real Flair

“I had the pleasure of working with Red Radish whilst being part of the organising team for the Tall Ships Event in Greenock this summer.  Over a two week period they provided catering for the many site crew supporting this event and Louise and Sue did a fantastic job of providing high quality food to large numbers in a professional manner whilst still retaining their friendly style and good humour.  During the Tall Ships Event itself Red Radish also provided food to many of our entertainers including headline acts Lulu, The Magic Number and Deacon Blue.  They demonstrated great flexibility and a real flair for producing great food at short notice and all our performers were delighted by the hospitality they received.  I would happily work with Red Radish again.”

Les Voiles de Saint Tropez

I will be based down in St Tropez for the 2011 Regatta supplying a daily delivery of food to a couple of the beautiful racing sailboats and classic yachts. It is a fantastic event organised every year by La Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez. Everyone knows that sandwiches (jambon/fromage baguettes!) in France can be a little bit boring so I will be making a great range of sandwiches, wraps, quiches and cakes which I will deliver every day to the boats. It will make a change from the usual St Tropez diet of Cristal Champagne and lobster served at Club 55 and Nikki Beach and most definitely be an awful lot cheaper!

Creative little numbers like Rare Roast Beef with Wholegrain Mustard Mayo and Rocket sandwiches, Slow-Cooked Pulled Pork with Roasted Apple and Sage wraps, good Old- fashioned Sticky Ginger cake and Crispy Bacon and Cherry Tomato rather than the traditional ham and cheese baguettes you are likely to find in and around the Quay (and France) in general. We will also be delivering cold drinks, wine and other general boat provisions during the week. I can even come on board and cook you a great dinner or you might possibly want us to deliver to your boat a wonderul selection of canapés and maybe even some champagne too.

One client even cried!

“Radish catering has worked with us and for us in various projects over the past 5 years. In this time, they have catered for small dinner parties to clients who have rented our villa, parties during Cannes film week and various birthday celebrations, one of which they managed for over a 100 guests. Their culinary expertise is fantastic – they have an innate ability to combine a friendly and approachable attitude with a professional and efficient service. We have never been disappointed and our guests and clients have constantly raved about the quality and flavour of menus offered. As with our own catering requirements, those of our clients have also been superbly met and surpassed – one client even cried when Wayne & Lucy catered for their last evening meal at our villa! You cannot get a better recommendation than that! We very much look forward to working with Radish over the coming years and would not hesitate to recommend them for an event however large or small. Please get in touch if you need anymore information.”

Villa Catering for Family Group

“The owner of the villa that we rented for two weeks in Biot during August 2011 recommended the catering service provided by Lucy and Wayne of Red Radish.

The service exceeded our expectations.

We required a lunch catering service on eight days of the holiday. The menu that we requested was to be based upon healthy local produce with detail of the menu being left to the discretion of Lucy and Wayne. The excellent three course meals were served in an informal and relaxed manner which perfectly suited our small family group.

Having lived and worked in the South of France for many years Lucy and Wayne were also able to provide us with local information on the best beaches, restaurants and places to visit which greatly enhanced the enjoyment of our holiday.

I have no hesitation in recommending the service of Red Radish.”

Park On My Drive.com

I flew back to the UK early this morning to a family BBQ before I start work again tomorrow on a crew project for four the next days. It will be nice to see everyone but I am soon back in France on Thursday for a long spell of continuous work. I caught the mid-morning flight from Nice to Southampton with Flybe. They are often delayed but I have to say that it does seem nice not having to scrap for a decent seat for a change. The only issue I have with them is that seem to want to charge for literally every little extra including hand luggage which seems absolutely ridiculous to me in this day and age where they are trying to get folk to travel light.

The other thing I absolutely must share with all you commuters out there is this fantastic little website dedictaed to cheap airport parking. It is called Park on My Drive which is pretty much what it sounds. Basically you look on there for someone that lives near where you want to park, contact them and voila before you know it you are pitched up on their drive for your two week holiday to Barbados or your short little break down to Cannes. It really is great and I just had the most wonderful ‘hosts’ close to Southampton airport for the bargain rate of £5 per day which INCLUDED them dropping me off and picking me up from the airport.

Marché Forville in Cannes

I just love the old market in Cannes which is just a two minute stroll from the apartments and on the edge of the Quartier Suquet. The Marché Forville is the town’s main fruit, flower, and vegetable market and is open every day except Monday when it pretty much turns into an antique market, although even then there are still always a few die-hard fruit and veg sellers where you can search out some great produce. It is not particularly cheap but then very little in Cannes or on the French Riviera is really! I have to say though the market really is one of those special places well worth a visit just for the colours and smells alone.

It is just a beautiful area where you can really enjoy the true Cannoise experience. Not only is the market bursting with the freshest fruit, vegetables, local fish, cheese, olives and cold meats but also a huge array of artisan shops and quality butchers and fishmongers. There are little bars serving a glass of wine and tapas, a caviar and smoked salmon shop, scent-indulging rotisseries and the famous Astoux et Brun oyster restaurant where guys in green overalls seem to be shucking oysters and preparing seafood platters (Fruit des Mer), all day and well into the night.

There are wonderful wine shops and the bread shops (boulangerie) sell specialist Provencal bread and the tastiest croissants. There are also some fab little restaurants serving bouride, aioli, daube and other tasty Provençal specialities.
