Red Radish win the prestigious Mama & Co Crew and Artist Catering Contract

Early 2014 saw an enquiry from the prestigious festival organiser Mama and Co who were looking at the possibility moving their current crew and artist catering away from established tour caterer Eatopia. Mama are one of the biggest names in the business with years of event industry experience and a host of big name festivals under their belt it was an exciting email to say the least. Our initial discussions focused on Wilderness, Lovebox, Global Gathering and a brand new and exciting Devon festival called Somersault.

Lovebox Crew Food

At the time of the enquiry Red Radish were living the dream providing the crew and production food for the world famous Cirque du Soleil at London’s Royal Albert Hall. After initial emails and costs, a tasting was arranged at this iconic venue. The production team from Mama had initially suggested that they wanted to try us out on one or two of their gigs first and that they would be nervous giving us all four festivals at once, but our food and our approach must have been spot on because a month or so later Red Radish were confirmed on all four festivals, including Somersault and Lovebox which ran at the same time. How’s that for confidence!

TPI Awards – Favourite International Caterer Nomination – Red Radish

Red Radish were absolutely delighted to find out that we have been nominated for an award recognising the production industries’ favourite catering company. OK, at this point it might only be a TPi Awards nomination but to be included in a list alongside established touring catering companies such as Eat to the Beat, Eatopia and North American favourite Spectrum Catering is a great accolade in itself. It remains to be seen how the voting will go and if last year’s winner and well known tour caterer Popcorn will triumph again but whatever happens we are chuffed to be on that list.

TPI Awards Favourite Catering Company Red RadishThe Total Production Industry Magazine (TPi) Awards were set up in 2002 to recognise designers, engineers, companies and individuals who have made an impact in the world of concert touring. Obviously anyone who has ever worked on a tour will know just how important catering can be and how it can totally carry a hardworking team through. Just ask the Dralion and Quidam tours of Cirque du Soleil  (also nominated in lots of categories) who Red Radish have been working with all over Europe since winning their super-prestigious catering contract last summer.

Louise Bird - Chef at Red RadishNow in its 14th consecutive year the TPi winners, (as voted for by the industry) will be held at Battersea Evolution in London on 16 February 2015 when over 1000 people from all corners of the live music business, the TPi Awards acknowledges and rewards the achievements of the most talented and successful individuals and service companies working within the industry.

It would be great if you could please find two minutes to vote for us and our wonderful clients Cirque du Soleil

Catering at Electric Picnic Festival for Casa Bacardi

I wanted to drop you all a note to say a massive thank you to everyone who worked at the Electric Picnic Festival in Dublin this  year. It was another big step on in terms of production value and event experience and everyone was on-it during the prep and on site. I have nothing but praise for the entire team to pull together a great show when tested by weather/press day schedule/budget! I have had a great response from the client to pass on his thanks to all concerned.

I also wanted to drop you a note  to say thanks for the great catering, it was a pleasure as normal. You have no idea how excited we all were that we were getting a proper dinner on the Thursday night, then for it to be pork belly what else do you need!

Thanks so much for everything. You guys certainly got the whole team smiling.

Also Capitalize managed to secure some media coverage, if you scroll down on this link I have asked Lou from Capitalize to name check you all, so thanks in an official format!

Tour Catering in nearly every European Arena

One thing about winning a fantastic tour crew and artist catering contract like Cirque du Soleil is that it has certainly given us the opportunity to cater in a vast number of arenas and stadiums right across Europe in a very short space of time. Two simultaneous tours also meant that we have to be mega-organised with our tour planning as we often found ourselves loading our catering equipment into stadiums like the Minsk Arena in Belarus whilst also setting up a virtual field kitchen the same day nearly 4000 kilometers away in say, the Jose Maria Martin Carpena in Malaga, Spain. It has been great fun moving every week and catering in iconic stadiums like England’s 02 and the Royal Albert Hall must surely be every tour catering companies’ dream!

Second to None Crew and Cast Catering – The Best we have ever used!

Red Radish provided my crew and cast catering on the feature film “Dom Hemingway” and craft services on high-end photo-shoots for Balmain and Isabel Marant’s Spring/Summer 2013 campaigns.

Each production presented us with extremely difficult logistical challenges, but the Red Radish team stepped up to the plate (pun intended) on each occasion.

Their attitude, flexibility and professionalism is second to none and their food is consistently appreciated by all palates.

They are number 1 in my book!

Thanks from Pudsey and the Children in Need Team

The team at Red Radish were delighted to receive this note from the BBC after crew catering for the delightful Children in Need at a recent UK festival.

“Dear Wayne, Louise and all the team,

Just wanted to drop you a line to thank you very much for the meals and refreshments you provided for the Children in Need crew at CarFest South this weekend. It was very generous of you and we’re grateful that you were able to include us in your numbers at such short notice.

As promised I attach a couple of photos of you all meeting our famous bear.

It was great to meet you and thank you again for your support for BBC Children in Need and your hard work at CarFest.

Best wishes,

Lucy”

Mobile Catering, Crew Catering & Catering Consultancy

Carfest was certainly one of the most exciting UK festival crew catering jobs we were asked to cater in 2012. The newly devised festival was the brainchild of Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans and took place at the beautiful Laverstoke Park Farm in Hampshire. We were there with our mobile catering set up for nearly two weeks feeding breakfast, lunch and dinner to a hungry team of around 350 crew and artists.

Celeb guests included Razorlight, Mark Webber, Texas and a whole host of others who were all there to support the BBC charity, Children in Need. It was amazing watching this beautiful sleepy farm, so close to London, being turned into a full on outdoor party venue for all the family and we are delighted to have already been booked for the 2013 Festival.  Due to the success of the event we have also been asked to act as a catering consultancy for another exciting new festival being launched in 2014. Thanks to all of the Red Radish crew in these photos that worked so very hard all summer.

UK Crew Catering Menu ideas for the hungry!

Let’s set the scene: You are away from your family, living in an often wet and cold UK field, whilst working sixteen hour days setting up a festival with a team of other crew. The work can be very physically demanding and the three things you need to be able to rely are a brilliant breakfast, a hearty lunch and a great dinner. Catering is quite simply HUGE! How many festival organisers have experienced the wrath of a burly scaff or sparks who are not getting enough good quality food to eat. Everyone know horror stories of poor crew catering and how it can upset the whole spirit of a team who are usually working almost around the clock to make sure everything is ready for the thousands of festival goers and artists who are expecting everything backstage to be perfect for their arrival. These boys and girls had better be getting their carbs or else!

Below is just one sample of a crew catering menu that we will be running at this year’s Glastonbury festival. We can adapt our choices and prices to suit every crew catering requirement and budget so please do get in touch if you would like more information.

A Magical French Riviera Wedding

Five years ago we were contacted by a British couple living in the Var who were looking for an English speaking catering company to organise their wedding in a beautiful French Vineyard venue called Chateau Thuerry. The wedding was a great success and ended up with everyone (including a couple of our staff!) dancing and enjoying the great live music provided by our favourite French Riviera band The Blah Blahs. Their website has them down as ‘Probably the best bar band in the world’ and as we always book them for our own parties, we are quite inclined to probably agree.

It was a brilliant wedding and one that has ended up with us becoming best friends with Claire and Paul, the bride and groom that day. Such good friends, that in fact that Claire now works for Red Radish as a freelance chef and we had a great time working together recently on the two week movie location shoot that we recently catered for down in St Tropez.

Needless to say we were both honoured and delighted when one Claire’s bridesmaids contacted us last summer to say that she so enjoyed everything about Paul and Claire’s big day that she was desperate to book Red Radish to help organise and cater for their up own and coming marriage. Helen and Clayton flew over from their home in the UK and we looked at various different wedding venue options together. They eventually decided on another French wedding venue not too far from St Tropez.

Photographers, our friend Peter the vicar, vintage wedding cars, hair and make-up, a DJ, Fireworks and of course the legendary Alan Roberts and the Blah Blahs were soon organised and booked as no Cote d’Azur stone was left unturned in this particular bride’s pursuit of perfection. It was a perfect wedding and even though the Provencal sunshine stayed away it still turned out to be a beautiful day and a great party that Red Radish was particularly proud to be part of. The bride and groom were the loveliest couple and we hope that they will are pretty sure that they will go on to become great friends, just like Claire and Paul.

Crew Catering at Festivals and Sustainability

UK Festival crew catering and sustainability seem to go hand in hand these days, and as lovers of the world and parents to five children, we try to think hard about everything we do and its possible impact on the environment.  As a responsible catering company working all over Europe at festivals like Glastonbury and Electric Picnic there its lots we can do to make sure we work responsibly and do our little bit to help a huge global problem.

It begins with the sourcing, wherever possible, of local (after all, who actually likes Tesco! ), organic and Fairtrade products, being aware of all our packaging, the disposable crockery we are sometimes forced to use, right through to our cooking methods and ultimately the disposal of everything we do not need or use.

If you have and, ideas or suggestions how you feel that Red Radish can improve or do more to help then please do get in touch.
