Catering at the Monaco Grand Prix

Red Radish were delighted to be one of the busiest catering companies at the Monaco Grand Prix again this year! The noise and atmosphere of the GP are an incredible experience, especially from up on the Y.Co  private balconies from where our guests (and chefs) had an awesome view of the track and the super yachts in the port. Is it the altitude or the exhaust fumes which whet the appetite but our food certainly went down a storm? In any case our delicious catering and well organised parties are designed to delight and satisfy, and they certainly did that at all our 2013 champagne fuelled GP events! While carnage ensued down on the track, up high our clients revelled in the opportunity to witness the highs and lows of the racing – the intervention of the safety car allowing for glasses and plates to be recharged with scrumptious morsels without missing a breathtaking moment!

We were not only catering on private terraces in Monte Carlo, but also down on the waterfront at various glamorous parties attended by the F1 teams, their racing drivers and their beautiful entourages, where they celebrated and sipped champagne (not the drivers of course!) whilst getting a taste of our delicious bowl food and fabulous canapés Whilst local boy Nico rode out front leaving the havoc to ensue behind, the party atmosphere prevailed and the celebrations had free rein – glitz, glamour, fine wines, beautiful crockery and glass hire plus mouth watering food all supplied in a first class fashion by the team of hosts and hostesses from Red Radish!

French Riviera Catering, Caterers, Cooks and Chefs

So what exactly is the difference between a cook and a chef we hear you asking? The answer quite simply is that we are not actually sure! One thing we do rather sadly know though is that 100% of restaurants in the South of France, particularly Cannes, Monaco and Nice that we visit all definitely have what they call a ‘chef’ and in about 80% of those restaurants we eat and usually end up feeling disappointed by how bad the food was. It is pretty much the same back in the London and the UK. At Red Radish we have both highly trained chefs and experienced cooks and the one thing that we like to think they have all got in common is that they are good, So good in fact that we nearly always  get asked back wherever we go.

‘The books’ describe a Chef as someone who preps and cooks meals in either restaurants or at receptions, villas, parties or events. Their food can often be exclusive to a  region, catering just Provencal for example, and some can be quite specific when plying their trade and deal with individual elements of a meal such as pastries, sauces, soups, salads, vegetables, meat, poultry and fish.

On large scale events, festivals, banquets and weddings, the Head Chef will often be there just to instruct other chefs in preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of food as well as managing a team of other kitchen staff responsible for making sure things happen effectively and on time. The Red Radish chefs and cooks often spend weeks planning menus, organising kitchen supplies and making sure they have all the equipment they need to make sure an event goes exactly to plan.

Basically, the next time you need caterers, cooks or chefs for your catering, and don’t want to do it yourself then give Red Radish a call. We are happy to look after as little as 6 guests in an exclusive French Riviera villa, as we are 1000 festival goers in a Greenfield site. Just make sure you let us know if you require a chefs or cooks. We may well end up sending the same people but at least we will know what to put on your invoice! We also promise you won’t be disappointed.

Organising a French Riviera Wedding in Just Six Weeks

When bride and groom Laure and Henrik approached Red Radish about organising their French Riviera wedding in less than six weeks we were initially hesitant as we had just returned to the South of France after a busy summer catering at lots of UK music festivals and events and to be honest were tired and looking forward to a rest and some much needed Riviera sun. However we agreed to meet them down in Cannes for a coffee as we thought we could at least give them some help and ideas with their wedding planning and organisation.

After just five minutes of chatting ideas through with them we were struck by their sweetness and immediately knew that we had to help. We offered to let them have Villa Aurita as the venue for their hastily planned wedding and you can see from the photos below and also their kind words just how much they enjoyed every element of their wedding menu and day.

Planning your French Riviera Wedding Menu

This is just one of a small selection of wedding menus available if you are planning on getting married in the South of France and are looking for an English Speaking catering company or wedding planner. A French Riviera wedding need not just be a dream and we would love to help make it easy by using our vast experience and contacts to organise your perfect Provençal wedding. We are happy to help plan everything from your wedding photographer, right through to marquee hire, the venue and even a vicar to perform your wedding blessing or ceremony. We hope this menu gives you a few food idea and please don’t forget to look around the rest of our site for more food inspiration.

What does Craft Services mean on a Film or TV location?

So, what exactly are Craft Services? In movie, TV or video production, craft service (UK, France and Europe) or crafty (USA) refers to the department that provides food service, buffet style snacks and drinks and hot beverages to the other departments or crafts. The crafts in film usually refers to departments such as camera, sound, electricians, grips, props, art director, set decorator, hair and makeup. Hence the term CRAFT SERVICES.

Whilst Red Radish can provide both there is a big difference between crafts service and the regular location catering we provide across France and the UK. When catering we usually bring in a catering truck or marquee and our chefs and crew base themselves there and cook the regular hot sit down meals that the film crew require and are entitled to every six hours when working on location. This usually last between thirty minutes and an hour unless of course you are in France where lunch can often take a little longer! Good food is more often than not the single most important meaning of a happy crew on location.

Crafts service is a lot different and can often be a crew position from within the movie production team, although most decent sized UK and French production companies these days bring in an outside caterer like Red Radish. Usually there are one or two craft service stations, set up on manned tables with a wide display of snacks and drinks available to keep everyone fed and happy during the day or night filming. The food provided can vary widely with low budget productions often offering very limited food.  Generally though (and especially at Red Radish!) a craft service table will offer generous food, fresh fruit and drinks plus lots of other goodies such as homemade cakes and delicious sandwiches and cookies. Great coffee is also an important part of the Red Radish craft Services table. The craft service tables can often be asked to move around the set so at short notice so it is essential that all our team are fit, strong and very responsive to the heavy demands of a film location.

Wedding Venues and getting married on the French Riviera

One of our favourite French Riviera Weddings that we planned and catered for in 2012 was in a beautiful Provencal vineyard called Chateau de Saint Martin. It was a spectacular wedding venue for the wonderful bride and groom who had always planned on hosting a spectacular Riviera wedding and marrying in the South of France.  The privately owned property which is just 50 minutes from the beaches of St Tropez and close to so many beautiful French villages was ideal for the 120 guests that enjoyed our usual high standard of wedding catering and service alongside some outstanding rosé wines provided by the vineyard.

This particular wedding was a bit of a joint venture as we helped the bride and groom view countless possible venues with everything from private villas, to chapels, vineyards and even full on beach and waterside restaurants right along the coast between Nice, Cannes and as far down as St Tropez. In the end we feel sure they made the right choice in selecting Chateau de Saint Martin and we were simply delighted to be part of their organising team on their special day.

Of course, once the venue had been selected we got down to planning the food for the wedding party and here you can see some of the great menu choices that the bride and groom had to select from. If you plan on getting married in Provence then make sure you give us a call on +44 7632 427033
