Jamie Cullum @ Jazz à Juan

A rare night off last night meant that I got the chance to see the wonderful Jamie Cullum at Jazz a Juan. The setting is awesome and it is now the fourth time I have seen Jamie live in concert. We had a great pizza with all five children which was a rare treat in itself. We ate at Vesuvio (phone: 04 93 61 21 47) right in the centre of Juan and had a nice round table on the terrace. Six pizzas, escalope à la Milanaise for Lily and two bottles of rosé with a bill of €157  did not seem too bad considering the setting and location. If you are ever in Cannes during the first couple of weeks of July then I would definitely make sure that you find a way of getting to the Jazz Fest in the wonderful setting of La Pinede. You could also do a lot worse than eating at Vesuvio!

Oh well, back to work tonight and now off to the Forville market to search for some fresh Fois Gras to go on top of the filet steak. I will also need to spend a while in the Fromagerie putting together a great cheese board. It’s a smelly job but someone has got to do it!

Champers in Chateauneuf

We cooked dinner in our villa last night for 16 fantastic guests from the other side of the ‘pond’ who made the special trip over to explore the jewels of the French Riviera. They had rented the house for a week to celebrate 125 years of happiness and it sure seemed like they were having a great time as I cracked open the first of half a dozen bottles of Veuve Clicquot. I can’t quite recall the maths but there were a couple of big birthdays and an anniversary in there somewhere, so all in all it was a great cause for celebration and they probably near on covered the cost of dinner with what they saved on buying that kind of champers in a fancy resto!

The menu included some great canapes which included a couple of garlic spiked Brie roasted in the oven. The starter was a glorious pink filet of salmon on a bed of crushed peas all sat on top of a balsamic glaze whilst they finished off with a the main course ofthat great French favourite, Coq au Vin along with some lovely salty crusted potatoes and stuffed courgettes. We left them tucking into the great big chocolate cake that we made for the celebration. The only pain was that yet again we forgot to take any photos!

Off to Scotland

While Wayne stays in the South of France looking after all our wonderful clients, I shall be setting off up the M1 this Sunday morning and heading off to a (hopefully) sunny Greenock in Scotland to get ready for the 2011 Tall Ships Races which begin in earnest on Saturday 9th – and finish on Tuesday 12th July 2011. Red Radish wil be feeding the hungry crews for the next two weeks starting very early each morning with a wonderful cooked breakfast (alongside a healthy option of course), then lunch followed by one of our great dinners. It looks like it is going to be non-stop hard work but I as a keen sailor I absolutely can’t wait to get up there.

It would be great to see some of you up there for what promises to be a terrific day out for all the family and is a FREE event with something for everyone! The event site will be open from 11:00 until 22:30 daily on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. On Tuesday the Parade of Sail, will start at 13:00.

Organisers, Sail Inverclyde, have confirmed that 57 Tall Ships will be docked along the multi-million pound refurbished James Watt Docks and quaysides. As well as over 1,885 experienced crew members and captains visiting Greenock, hundreds of trainees will be taking part in the race.

Car Mechanic in the South of France

A Car Mechanic!! Maybe a bit of a random post but we just wanted to mention a great discovery we have made down here on the French Riviera. Phil Eady has been repairing and servicing our French and British cars and van this summer and has been just brilliant. His company is called Mechanic 06, he provides emergency breakdown recovery and covers everywhere from Monaco down to the Var. He charges very fairly and just as important is reliable and speaks English. Everyone knows how difficult it is to find trustworthy experienced mechanic ANYWHERE so he really is a breath of fresh air to find down here. He even services and repairs small boats! His mobile number is +33 (0)6 24 02 82 61 or you can mail us and we will pass on your details
