Red Radish donating to key-workers, homeless and vulnerable folk during coronavirus

We’ve been working alongside some great community schemes to help donate meals to those in need this spring.

Having been kept busy this spring thanks to our work for St Mungo’s and the Mayor of London, we’ve been able to extend some of our time and effort to others in serious need of a hand.

We took on the St Mungo’s job shortly after the outbreak of COVID-19 and had to rally quickly, setting up a comprehensive cooking, packing and distribution operation capable of feeding thousands. It seemed only right that given we would have the infrastructure in place and plenty of hands on deck, we should do our bit to help as many vulnerable folk out as we could.

Over the past five or six weeks, Red Radish have been donating thousands of delicious hot meals to various charities, community groups, rough-sleepers, families, front-line workers, and volunteers across London, Winchester, Basingstoke and the surrounding villages. A big shout out to the wonderful FirstBite, the MHA Live at Home Scheme and the Salvation Army for their support on this.

Setting up a temporary kitchen and food delivery service during coronavirus

Our temporary kitchen is able to produce delicious food and our drivers are working hard to deliver to locations right across London and surrounding areas.

Using our own cash, a couple of donations, some sporadic free food, plus any small profit made on the St Mungo’s job; we’ve been able to drop meals on the doorsteps of hospitals, community centres, elderly neighbours and many more.

Check out the video of the Radishes in action.

In what has been such a bleak situation for so many, it’s been heart-warming to feel the love and gratitude that something as simple as a hot meal can bring. We’ve even had elderly members of the local community picking up the phone and asking if we can add them to our drop-offs.

We’ve received some vital support from suppliers keen to help us out with these endeavours, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Without this lot none of this would be possible:

  • Sleeper Buses Ltd for the comfy tour bus
  • Do’s For Loos for giving us somewhere to go!
  • Yes Tents for the huge social distancing marquee
  • Team Audio for saving us shouting
  • Event Crew Solutions for keeping us fenced in
  • Booker PLC for the great food and space
  • Chew Valley Shower Hire for keeping everyone sparkly
  • People Powered for powering the people
  • Dorset Coffee for keeping the troops going
  • …and our landlord Mat Raymond for putting up with all of this!

One final massive thank you has to go to the legendary Radishes working on this one. What an amazing bunch of crew we are lucky to have!

Please do let us know if there’s anyone you feel is missing out on help throughout this difficult time. We promise to see what we can do.
